the lazy creature that i am, i havent blogged since a long long time eventhough i thought of doing so on numerous occasions...it shud've been a post per topic but i cudnt take time out of my busy schedule :P and hence this loooong post...so what's this post about?

Long Walks..

Now that we dont have so many assignments upon our necks and the weather being awesome in the evenings, lifez pretty cool and i've been walking a lot nowadays with my friends...we've been to the helipad near the Gachibowli stadium (me, anil, sudheer, naveen and saladi), Microsoft (me, daruru, kowshik and shashank), HCU (me, anil, sudheer and bappi)...even a walk around the campus is just lovely with the weather being sooo good :)...its nice to walk around with friends and discuss random stuff :)

A great prof..

This is about Dr.Kannan Srinathan. In my first year, when I attended a talk on something related to physics, I saw him for the first time...his appearance amused me and i thought whoz this ultra-orthodox prof. with a ponytail n tilak n all...he asked the speaker an amazing question after the talk to which that guy who talked so much about his work had no answer! then i thought he must be a genius coz normal ppl dont get such doubts...

We are lucky to have him teach us ToC this sem...I like his classes, his writing and his presentation skills but he mumbles sometimes and its difficult to understand what he says...in one such class he asked us to give some feedback regarding the course and I, without keeping my mouth shut, said that he needs to make us solve some problems like those in the phodu ques paper (the 2nd midsem screwed us all)...Jimmy backed me up but Kannan dedicated the whole class to prove that we made an absolutely stupid suggestion...he talked about the morals of studying any course and went on n on but was completely logical in what all he said and proved that we did not have a point at all...:(

After the same class, I (along with a few others) met him regarding a summer project...he asked each one of us our areas of interest (like algos, crypto, networks etc.), wrote down the morals of each of these areas, thought for a while and came up with a project in a matter of 5 mins! But I thought it was too difficult to implement what he wanted and decided to ask him for another project later...

After a few days, I met him again n this time we talked for about 2.5 hrs deciding what my summer project should be!! he said that I must come up with a project myself n gave a perfect analogy between students & profs and customers & shopkeepers...

Suppose you have a 100 bucks and u wish to buy something useful with it...you have 2 options...one is to decide what you want beforehand and ask the shopkeeper whether he has it or not and the second is to ask the shopkeeper what he has and take whatever he offers...the analogy - 100 bucks :: the 2 months in the summer, customer :: student and shopkeeper :: prof...amazing isnt it?!

Obviously, it was difficult for me to come up with something instantaneously so I gave it another shot to extract a project from him...I asked him what he is working on currently in the hope that he would offer me a small part of whatever hez doing but I got the vaguest possible answer!! He said he has some inferences about distributed computing, network security n stuff and was working on proving them but it was all hi-funda stuff and I barely understood what he said! But finally as it was the last date to submit the project forms, I asked him to sign the form and said that we could decide later what the project should be :) I still havent thought what I should do, but I think working under him must be lotsa fun :) I see one small defect though...he is tooooooo philosophical and yet damn logical and I dont like philosophical people but like logical ones! So presently I am in a dilemma whether or not to do honors under him...

I'll blog about the remaining things later as itz 04:00 now (I started blogging @ around 2:30!!) and i have a class of his at 08:30 tomorrow rather today :)

of everything since i last blogged...

i've lifted the title of this post from somewhere :D...i dunno where i read it (coz i'm reading too many blogs nowadays)...liked the title n thought of using it for this post as its been around 5-6 days since i last blogged...

finally on 24th feb (40 days after my bday :D) me, samba n ling threw a party for the ppl in this pic (sarika took the picture) at Chutneys, Panjagutta...most of these ppl are non-veggies, but owing to bird-flu, we'd decided to go there n have the dishes that this place is famous for..TIFFINS!!




the place was pretty good except for the prices...33 bucks for a pair of idlies with a load of butter on each of them is just toooo much for me...it tasted good but just imagine my plight! (i was the one paying!) not that i am crying abt it but 33 bucks for a thing which fills only 5% of one's stomach is just ridiculous!!


chole bature costed 62 but the curry was very very ordinary...paneer tikka dosa was very very good (dun have a pic :D)...the lemonade was also good...on the whole we had fun n that's what mattered :) we paid 3750 (!) bucks overall, then went to ice n spice, mehedipatnam...

dint go home n stayed back for ExOR the following day (26-02-06) but attended only 1 talk which was by Kannan...he talked abt "Security and Crypto" related things and his presentation was good...almost none from our batch attended the talks...the response from the other colleges was decent...i thought it was mainly to attract these ppl towards doing MS in our college...

then things that shud not have happened between two good friends happened...i'd rather not put up what happened here but this is just for me to recall the incident whenever i read this post again...i am still angry with that guy and dunno whether i'll be frenz with him again! (as good as we were b4)

went home next morning n returned for the classes today...did nothing useful both @ home n even now in college :)
not in the mood to write anymore, so more in my next post :)....n aah the exams sucked btw so i dont need to post abt them :)

Exams Time!

i was always excited by exams (atleast till the 10th) coz i always stood first in class in school...but when i entered college, i realised that i was a goner when it came to competitive exams...first in school meant that one had some stuff but competitive exams were always not my cup of tea...that's the reason i dint make it to IIT eventhough i gave the exam twice :( n now i hate the very word "EXAM"...i wasnt like this at all during school...i always did very well in all the exams n hence was kinda the "GOD" in school...all this required not much of an effort (seriously!)...but now, just the thought of sitting for an exam is dreadful coz u know it is next to impossible to beat all the nerds (especially ones of the fairer sex who i dont think have any other thing in this world to do except MUG, MUG n MUG all day)...one writes an exam with the hope that he scores good marks but no matter how well u prepare n write, there are atleast 20-30 ppl (with almost all the gals :P) who outperform u...so i realised that one's result does not depend on how much u study n write but on the performance of others...this midsem also wont be any different...

now for the million dollar question! how did the gals who scored somewhat less in the 1st sem (7-8.5), start getting such unbelievable results from the 2nd sem (>9)...dont tell me they've started working harder from the 2nd sem coz i dont think ppl's studying habits change...i just dont understand the reason for their consistency...almost all the gals scored > 9 in the 3rd sem n r continuing to rock in the 4th sem as well...i tried asking a couple of gals the secret but none revealed it...

the shameless creature that i am, i'm still not doing anything that would change this...i am still doing "one-day batting" before the exams n expect to do well...we have algos n dbms on monday n i still have to start dbms seriously...prep for algos is pretty decent as of now (according to my standards :D) n i hope to finish it but god knows what'll happen to my dbms paper! toc n number theory are wonderful courses n the prep for these 2 also is pretty good...ai has always been a mysterious course n will continue to be one even after the exam, so no point in talking abt it...it also happens to be an open-book exam (the first such exam that i'll ever write!)...

1st post after a long long time..

back with a bang (?) after a long time...i always wished 2 blog regularly but i cudnt do so with all the work i have 2 do :)...so here goes...

this year's felicty was better than what it was last time but i dint have a good time...firstly i was very ill during those days and secondly i dint get any prizes though i participated in 4 events :(...cache-in was very exciting with me, pramod, harith n prafulla cracking our heads to solve the not so meaningful questions...we cudve finished better but we stood 26th...cleared the 1st round of FIFA (3-2) in the zombiezone but lost in the 2nd round (2-1..my opponent went on to the semis n beat dinkar n singla on the way there)...then, i dint even clear the prelims of the singing competition...sang "tadap tadap" but it was a debacle...shudve realised then that i wasnt a good singer but i sang "dus bahaane" with shukla n saladi...it was the awfullest performance ever!...all the three of us made such silly mistakes that i dint know what to say to them after the show...the practice was coming out so well that i thought we had a chance but it was horrible on the stage...

now for the grades in my 3rd semester :) my seniors had always advised me to work hard in the 3rd sem as it is very very easy scoring a 10....but the idiot that i am i dint work @ all n finished with a dismal 8.15 :( (the best of all the sems so far but there are infinite ppl above me)...got a single A- (in itws) and 4 B's! (discrete math, OS, SnS n industry)...B in OS was surprising (deserved a D coz i dint do a single assgn well) but had this great oppurtunity of getting an A in math, itws (screwed up the endsem paper) n industry (dint work hard enuf, but i think i atleast deserved an A-) and an A- in SnS (the quizzes screwed me up here)...anwyayz life goes on n on and the shameless creature that i am havent done anything (yet :D) to improve...still my usual self with 1000 songs a day, orkut, DC++, 24 (season 5 is awesome!) n F.R.I.E.N.D.S (stuck in the 2nd season)...lets hope that i change myself for the better and give a lot more importance to studies...ppl call me a "kasi" but hope they change their opinion after reading this...

my health has worsened from what it was n now i have temperature, throat infection, body pains and what not...mom came 2 see me today...we have an algos assgn 2 submit tomorrow n i havent started yet :)...already lost marks in 2 assgns...did nothing useful all-day except for restarting blogging :)
